Volunteering

We value our volunteers!  Our mission is to make canoeing and kayaking available to everyone and we count on each and every volunteer to help make the magic happen!  Perhaps you would like to give your time and talents to help impact the lives of people with disabilities.

We need volunteers who have a personal mission to help people of all abilities to discover their potential.  If you would like to help out in the water, it is important for you to be a proficient swimmer, a competent paddler, and have a strong sense of responsibility and safety.

Volunteers are also appreciated in areas of administration such as fundraising, data management and accounting.

What are the benefits of volunteering with Abilities In Motion?

  • Earn community service hours
  • Develop new skills – communication, leadership, etc.
  • Work experience which could lead to career opportunities
  • Opportunity to add to/develop your resume or CV
  • An opportunity to give something back to the community
  • Build self confidence
  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Sense of achievement and personal fulfillment
  • Have fun!

We urge you to help a person with various abilities to experience the sense of calm and accomplishment that comes from paddling.

For most of us, we simply slide into a kayak and begin to paddle – we might get a lesson or two – but mostly it’s easy. This isn’t true for people who live with a mental or physical disability or who are fearful for other reasons. They will need help with equipment and techniques. Many are limited to basic financial assistance and cannot afford any outings at all. These people need our help to enjoy, what we “able” people take for granted.

Your support for Abilities in Motion makes it possible for us to improve the lives of people with disabilities. If you can share your time or talent, please let us know.
